Top Biglaw Firm Will Require 4 In-Office Work Days Each Week, Starting In 2024

back to office 4 day work weekOne week ago, we suggested that in the future, associates may need to brace themselves for four days spent working from the office again. Now, another leading Biglaw firm is making four in-office days a requirement for associates, following up on its May 2023 edict that office attendance may impact their compensation.

Simpson Thacher & Barlett — a firm that brought in $2,150,365,000 gross revenue in 2022, putting it in 15th place in the latest Am Law 100 — recently announced that all of its U.S.-based employees must work from the office at least four days a week, starting in January 2024. Simpson now joins several firms that require four days spent in the office each week, including Skadden; Davis Polk; Weil; Ropes & Gray; and Vinson & Elkins.

Sources previously told Above the Law that Simpson’s enforcement of its Tuesday through Thursday attendance policy had been lax. We’ve yet to hear from associates as to how their attendance impacted their year-end bonuses, which are scheduled to be paid at the end of the month.

Best of luck to associates at Simpson Thacher as they adjust to their new lives next year, which will be mostly spent at the office.
